Hello. My 85 year old neighbor has this 1923 Victor Victrola talking machine and would really appreciate some info on it. Her aunt bought it new in 1924 and gave it to her mother in 1940. When her mother passed away, it was given to her and she has had it ever since. It works well and doesn't have any gouges or big scratches on it. It is very stable, no loose legs and the doors and lid are tight. One thing I'm having trouble with is identifying the veneer. I can't tell if it's Mahogany or Walnut. I was told by a fairly reputable person that if they had to guess they would say walnut, but they didn't want to guess...lol. Her husband of 63 years passed away and she has to move to a smaller home or assisted living facility and she needs to sell it, but doesn't know what to ask. I told her I would help her, but I know nothing about antiques. I just don't want to see her get ripped off. She's been like a grandmother to me and I would be very angry if that happened! I can answer any questions you might have to the best of my ability and can phone her if needed. Thanks in advance!
