“Faux chinoiserie” antique plates - old but fake?

When my great-grandfather’s business came into some success in the 1920s, my great-grandmother remodeled their bungalow into a fine house, and paid a dealer to go abroad to find her nice furnishings and dishes. In among the (genuine) fine English china dishes that my great-grandmother collected and used was this set of twelve plates with a mix of Chinese-style motifs - two animals (griffin? lion?) and two still-lifes on tables. On the back of each plate is a gold anchor plus the script “made in France.” Are they Chinese trying to be European? Or European trying to be Chinese? I think these are fake, or at least not collectibles, maybe imported but not a known maker. Thoughts, anyone?
